PRSSA 2017 Bateman Competition

This year, I served as the team leader for Indiana University's delegation in the Public Relations Student Society of America's 2017 Bateman Competition. Through research, planning, executing, and evaluation, my team created a full public relations campaign for our client, the Campaign to Change Direction. Over the course of a month, we created a campaign concept, promotional materials, events for students, and partnerships with student groups all geared towards improving the mental health culture at Indiana University.

MTV Internship Project

Through my internship at Viacom, I created a hypothetical linear + digital + social campaign for MTV and Logo TV. With Whole Foods as the client, I created a multi-platform campaign questioning our food standards and priorities. The campaign is completely hypothetical, and is in no way associated with or created by MTV, Logo TV, or Whole Foods.

Student volunteers give free tax assistance for the Indiana Daily Student

The IU IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program helps hundreds of local taxpayers file state and federal tax returns every year.

The program is run by students from IU’s Maurer School of Law and the Kelley School of Business, according to an IU press release, and clinics have been running three times per week in various locations on campus since Feb. 9. This year’s clinics end March 26.

Assistance is aimed at helping local taxpayers whose annual income is less than $54,000 or if they are elderly, have a disability or limited English proficiency. IU students and Bloomington residents alike have attended these sessions and received their free assistance during the past two months, according to the press release.

The last session will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 26. The location will be posted on the VITA website.

Jeremy Munza currently serves as a VITA student coordinator after previously being a quality reviewer and regular volunteer. He is one of many volunteers which he said come from Maurer, Kelley and a variety of undergraduate majors.

As a second-year law student, Munza said he has always been interested in doing tax law and this program was a great opportunity to start practicing.

After participating in the program last year, Munza says he is impressed with this year’s turnout.

“We’ve been really busy,” Munza said. “We have had some really great support from our quality reviewers, had really great volunteers and we’ve gotten a lot accomplished. With 589 paper returns and 120 e-files we have, in total, completed 89 more returns than last year.”

PR Strategy Report for Pitaya

In my Public Relations Research course, we chose organizations and companies in the Bloomington, IN area and analyzed the relationship between their social media performance and their business' success. My team and I worked with Pitaya, a local clothing boutique, to create social media and public relations strategies to help them connect with their target customers and compete with the rest of the Bloomington apparel market. Content by team and I, images and Pitaya logo from Pitaya, design by me. Press Kit for the Indiana University Dance Marathon

As the Publicity Chair for the Indiana University Dance Marathon, I oversaw 16 students within the 74-person Public Relations Committee. Our role was to write press releases for each event the organization holds, manage the blog, invite media outlets to the marathon, and create a press kit. Content by committee members, pictures by IUDM, design by me.
